Inflation: the mid-market customer has less and less money in their pocket
Inflation estimated at 4.5-4.8%, consumer prices up by around 40% since 2020. People living on a salary or a pension cut out the extras or ask for a discount. If you sell to them, the problem is yours too.
The mid-market customer has less and less money in their pocket. If you sell to them, the problem is yours too.
In the Corriere della Sera I read that Prime Minister Meloni has written to Ursula von der Leyen to update the public accounts: inflation is estimated at 4.5-4.8%, against the 1.8% forecast in the European documents.
Compared with 2020, in my view, consumer prices have risen by around 40%. People living on a salary or a pension cut out the extras or ask for a discount. And meanwhile production costs keep rising.
I see only one way forward for us entrepreneurs: move up a market segment and look for high-spending customers, who don't have this problem. Just look at Porsche 911 sales in Italy from 2020 to today: one record after another.
If you are in the mid-market, the time to move is now.
