How to expose a marketing expert in one click

This is the feature I love most on Meta's advertising platform, and it's public: it lets you gauge how good your marketing expert, or prospective expert, really is. It takes a minute, and you don't need to be technical.

In brief
  1. Every page's active ads are public. You can see them in Meta's Ad Library.
  2. Go to the expert's page and look at his ads. Then look at his clients' ads.
  3. If he has 800 fans and no active ads, he should be paying you to explain how it works.
  4. The test applies to you too: your competitors can see whatever you have running.

The question nobody asks

When someone sells himself as a marketing or web marketing expert and tells me dazzling things about online advertising, I do something very simple to test him, and you can do it too. Go to his page and click on page transparency, or look his page up in Meta's Ad Library, which is public. If you want to give him a second chance because you don't see anything interesting, take his list of clients and do the same thing from there.

What happens? You see the page information: the countries where ads are running and every ad live at that moment, with the images, the videos and the copy. Everything is visible, for transparency towards users. Meta introduced this feature in 2018, and in 2026 it's still there.

Before it existed, I put it like this in the classroom: that little game is over. The game of the consultant who shows you slides with results from a client you can't check. Today you open the page, click, and see what he really does.

The comparison

So you go to the self-styled expert and check. If I, his prospective client, have ads running in five languages with five funnels attached, and each language has ten ads according to my system, then the big expert has to do better.

With all due respect, if his page has 800 fans and no active ads, he should be paying me to explain how it works.

With this method you can assess the competence of any consultant. You can also check his clients' pages, because they are the ones testing, and see how they're doing it: which formats, which copy, in how many countries, how long the ads have been running. Anyone who sells marketing should be the first to do it for himself. If he doesn't, either he doesn't believe in it or he doesn't know how. Either way, he is not the person to trust with your budget.

It works the other way too

Remember that the test cuts both ways: your ads are also visible to anyone, competitors included. One more reason to do them well. A page with ads running in several languages, with quality photos and videos and a coherent journey, tells whoever looks at it something precise, client or competitor alike: here is a company that invests, knows what it's doing and doesn't need to sell on anyone else's terms. In luxury, that is already part of the positioning.
